For admission purposes, applicants are considered an international student if they are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, and they plan to attend the University in a valid non-immigrant visa status (F-1, J-1, E-2, H-4 visas as well as others). Review the checklist of required application items and don’t miss any important dates.

Checklist for International First-Year Student

  • Apply with the Common Application 
  • Apply with the UP Application 
  • Official secondary school records
  • Secondary School Report / Recommendation Form
  • Essay (follow application prompts)
  • SAT or ACT Exam:
    • Optional for applicants through Fall 2024. You can indicate if you would like test scores used on your application.
    • If you will complete secondary school outside the US, or will complete less than 3 years of high school in the US at the time of graduation is not required to take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT 1) or the American College Test (ACT).
    • If you will complete 3 or more years of high school in the United States by the time of high school graduation you will be required to submit scores from the SAT or ACT. However, you will not need to submit an English language proficiency exam.
  • English proficiency exam: Non-native English speakers who will complete less than 3 years of high school in the US by the time of graduation must submit an English proficiency exam score. Minimum score requirements and further information is available at our English Proficiency Requirements page.

Additional Items (post-acceptance)

These two items are needed if you are accepted to the University in order to complete immigration form processing. The earlier these items are received the better we can assist you.

  • Immigration Information and International Student Declaration of Finances Worksheet
  • Copy of Passport Biographical Page

All documents submitted to UP become the property of the University and cannot be returned to applicants.


Timeline

August 1 Common Application becomes available
September 1 Applications for admission accepted
December 1 Final deadline for the Spring term (classes begin mid-January) if space available
January 15 Recommended deadline to guarantee space available in fall class.
June 1 Final deadline for the Fall term (classes begin late August) if space available
