Fellowships & Grants: Undergraduate
If you are a freshman, sophomore, or junior considering a major scholarship, fellowship, or grant, now is the time to prepare! There are a few things to keep in mind while you prepare to apply for a major award:
- Keep your grades up; all awards demand high GPAs.
- Make sure you are taking courses that will prepare you for the project that you will someday be outlining.
- Get involved. Scholarship committees look for well-rounded people. If you see a need on campus for some organization that does not exist, start it.
- Think about summer jobs/internships that are in line with the trajectory of your file. Demonstrate through your involvement your commitment to the direction your life is taking.
- Build relationships with professors. The more your professors know you and your work, the better the letter they will write for you down the road.
It is also a good idea to make an appointment with the director sooner than later, so he can help you plan and prepare. Contact Dr. John Orr at 503-943-7857 or orr@up.edu. Please bring with you a completed form.
