Moreau Center: Alternative Breaks and Immersion Trips

Alternative breaks and immersion trips are a wonderful way to serve and learn from other cultures, socio-economic groups, and even other countries. These trips provide students with a hands-on, close-up view of different populations and issues in Oregon, Washington, other parts of the West, and Latin America. Take a moment to explore the possibilities and contact the Moreau Center or the designated student coordinator for more information.

Rural Plunge	Fall Break 09	Explore issues of agribusiness and migrant farm life in the U.S. in Washington's Yakima Valley during fall break. Visit social service agencies and participate in service projects. One Sociology credit can be earned.	ruralplunge@up.edu	Sept. 23 2009

Border Plunge	Spring Break 09	Travel to the US/Mexico Border on Spring Break to learn about immigration, the global economy, environmental and human rights issues. Native Alaskan Plunge	Spring Break 09	Travel to Alaska and Central Oregon to learn about the historic and contemporary struggles of the Native American community.	nativeamerican@up.edu	Oct. 28 2009
Civil Rights Plunge	May 2010	Visit major Civil Rights sites in Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana before traveling to New Orleans to participate in a Habitat for Humanity rebuilding project. Nicaragua Immersion	May 2010	Travel to Nicaragua immediately following Spring semester on a three week immersion experience.
