- In 2012, six students received Fulbright Awards for post-graduate work and study including Kurt Berning '12, Jennifer Brannan '12, Christopher Lew '12, Jason Hortsch '12, Jessica Marsh '12, and Bianca McCluskey '12.
- In 2011, a record 10 University of Portland students received Fulbright Awards for post-graduate work and study including Nick Balthrop ’11, Sean Frederick '11, Natalie Hemphill '11, Natalie Higgins '11, Brianna Hodge '11, Lisa McMahan '11, Annemarie Medrzycki '11, Jeni Mussio ’11, Erika O’Sullivan '11, and Jessica Tsao '11.

The Beacon student newspaper received nine awards at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association’s (ONPA) 2011 Collegiate Newspaper Contest, including first-place awards for best section, best series, best sports story and best graphic. The Beacon also won second place for Best All-Around Non-Daily Student Newspaper in Region 10 (Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, and Montana) in the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards.
- Fulbright Scholarships were awarded to Liz Banicki ’10, Agatha Brzezinski ’10, Allison Goodfellow ’10, Isaac Otto ’10 and Sarah Warsaw ’09. Jenni Keating ’10 and Katie Weltner ’10 received Austrian Government Teaching Awards, and Nathan Haskell ’10 received a French Government Teaching Award.
- Kelly Northcutt ’11 received a prestigious Udall Scholarship to further her studies in environmental ethics and policy.
- Kendra Chritz ’09 received a three-year $30,000 graduate research fellowship from the National Science Foundation.
- University of Portland’s student newspaper The Beacon received eight awards at the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association’s 2010 Collegiate Newspaper Contest including first place for general excellence.
- University of Portland women’s soccer, volleyball and women’s indoor and outdoor track programs were honored in 2010 with the NCAA's APR Public Recognition Award for posting multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. It marks the fifth consecutive year that the women’s soccer and volleyball teams earned APR Public Recognition.
- University of Portland engineering students scored a 92 percent passing rate among 2008 graduates who took the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination. One hundred (100) percent those University of Portland electrical engineering graduates passed the test, as well as 92 percent of the University’s civil engineering graduates and 91 percent of the mechanical engineering graduates who took the test.
- Standout soccer player Stephanie (Lopez) Cox was named the 2008 Mike Gilleran West Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year by a vote of the league's institutional representatives. The award recognizes the finest accomplishments in athletics, academics, and community service by individuals who have completed their collegiate eligibility.

Graduates of the Class of 2008 receiving post-graduate teaching and research awards included Rachel Morenz (Fulbright award to teach English in Venezuela); Jeanie Toscano (research Fulbright grant to investigate educational opportunities for Turkish immigrants in Germany); David Gregg (Austrian government teaching assistantship in English, an award offered through the Fulbright program) and Alice-Louise Rossignol (English teaching award from the French government).

Henry Hanson '08 received a Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange scholarship for a yearlong internship in Germany.

Stephanie Lopez '08 was named the inaugural recipient of the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for women’s soccer.
The award, selected by a nationwide panel vote of coaches, media members and fans, is presented to the outstanding NCAA Division I senior student-athlete whose
personal qualities define a complete student-athlete. Criteria include excellence in the classroom, character and community, as well as competition in sports.
