Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

A close-knit community that’s open to all.

UP is a close-knit community that’s open to all. It’s a place where diversity, equality, and inclusivity are paramount. That translates into continually striving to create an environment where everyone benefits from being exposed to a wide range of ideas, experiences, and perspectives. Because we believe inclusivity is a way of life, we are always looking at enhancing the types of programs, events, and resources offered so as to best embrace our diverse community.

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the land on which we sit and occupy at the University of Portland. "The Portland Metro area rests on traditional village sites of the Multnomah, Wasco, Cowlitz, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Bands of Chinook, Tualatin Kalapuya, Molalla, and many other tribes who made their homes along the Columbia River creating communities and summer encampments to harvest and use the plentiful natural resources of the area" (PILR, 2018).  We take this opportunity to thank the original caretakers of this land.
