I joined the Army in 1986 during my second year of education at College of DuPage located in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. I served in the active Army for three years as an enlisted soldier and then joined the Army Reserves. I commissioned in 2001 with the Oregon Army National Guard, through Officer Candidate School (OCS) and branched in the Signal Corps. I have served in Panama, Honduras, Austria, Japan, Egypt, and recently returned from a one year Iraq deployment with the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team in 2010 as Battalion Signal Officer with the 1-186th Infantry, Ashland, Oregon. My current unit assignment is Commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, Joint Forces Headquarters, Oregon Army National Guard in Salem, Oregon. I bring over 27 years of military experience to the Army ROTC program at University of Portland.
