The University of Portland is on a semester system, with the academic year beginning in late August and ending in the beginning of May. While offering an internship that coincides with our students’ academic calendar is ideal, it is understood that these opportunities may be offered and accepted at any time during the year.
Academic Credit Internships
Start dates and end dates for internships are generally best if they follow the academic calendar when the student is earning academic credit for the internship.
The internship position description outlines the start and end date for the internship and we can work with you to determine what would be best for your needs in relation to the academic calendar.
Generally the duration of an internship for credit is one semester (15 weeks) and averages about 8-10 hours per week (120 – 150 hours total).
The usual length of a non-credit internship is three to six months, and the duration is negotiable depending on the student and employer availability.
Please let us know if you hire any of our students as a result of their internship. We are always interested in learning what the outcome was for employers who post positions with us. Feel free to contact us at email@example.com.
