Health Center: New Student Wellness Education
Think About It
As we strive together to create a socially responsible learning community, practice ethical decision-making, and recognize how our behaviors affect ourselves, and those around us, the University of Portland requires all new first-year and transfer undergraduate students to complete an online course, entitled Think About It, before arriving on campus.
Think About It is an evidence-based course that prepares incoming students for the unique challenges and responsibilities of college life. Recognizing that the issues of drug and alcohol abuse, the hookup culture, sexual violence, and healthy relationships are all connected, the program examines these topics in social, cultural, and personal contexts. Through a variety of interactive, realistic scenarios and guided self-reflection, students are invited to make decisions about how they will engage these issues once they are on campus. While one of the course videos is from a UP student, the other videos filmed elsewhere illustrate experiences that can happen on college campuses anywhere.
Students must complete Think About It by Monday, August 25, 2014.
