Health Center: Mission in Action
Teaching
In addition to treating each service contact as a mutual teaching moment, Health Center clinicians provide outreach workshops, classroom guest lectures, student-athlete life skills class lectures, off-campus community group lectures and professional conference presentations. We also sponsor guest lectures on topics such as date rape prevention, alcohol abuse prevention, and eating disorders awareness.
Faith
The staff members of the University Health Center honor and celebrate the Catholic identity of the University of Portland, and the charism of the Congregation of Holy Cross. We also honor and celebrate the diversity of religious backgrounds among students, faculty and staff. The health center staff members participate in campus liturgies, have integrated a pastoral care service in their service array, and have dedicated themselves to advancing the community’s understanding and appreciation of spirituality and spiritual health as a central aspect of health for the whole person regardless of one’s specific religious affiliation.
Service
Health Center clinicians have taken service beyond their usual job descriptions and have provided volunteer services collectively or individually to programs and agencies in the neighboring community and throughout the greater Portland area.
Leadership
Health Center clinicians are members of local, regional, and national professional organizations and have served in leadership roles within these organizations.
