Health Center: Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis
In 2005, the Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended the vaccine for Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertusis (Tdap) over the vaccine for only Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) for adolescents and adults. Pertussis (Whooping Cough) has been increasingly recognized as a significant health problem among college student populations. The UP UHC encourages and provides Tdap in most situations when a Tetanus shot is necessary, to provide the additional protection against Pertussis.
