Shiley School of Engineering Welcomes New Faculty

The Shiley School of Engineering will be welcoming five new faculty to campus this August.

Rajaa Alqudah joins UP as an Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering. Alqudah has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Yarmouk University (Jordan) and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from Syracuse University. From 2011-2017, she worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Intel (OR & TX).

Katie Bieryla joins the Shiley School of Engineering as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. Bieryla has a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech. She was an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Bucknell University (PA) from 2009-2017.

Christy Ivler joins the school as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. Ivler has a bachelor’s degree in aeronautical & mechanical engineering from University of California Davis and a Ph.D. in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University. From 2005-2017, she was a Research Aerospace Engineer, U.S. Army Research Development and Engineering Command (CA), and worked as an Adjunct Lecturer, Santa Clara University, 2014-2017.

Nazanin Mansouri joins UP as an Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering. She has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology and a Ph.D. in computer engineering from University of Cincinnati. She worked as an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering, Syracuse University, 2000-2008 and as a Senior Design Engineer, Intel (OR) from 2012-2017.

Jen Symons joins the school as an Assistant Professor of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering. Symons has three degrees from UC Davis -  a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering/aeronautical science, a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering. For the last couple of years, Symons has been a consultant (with her own company) on biomechanics, experimental design, and statistical analyses for sports product performance. She has also taught in the Shiley School as an adjunct in the BME program and helped several senior capstone teams.
