No Talent Show

Brian Doyle Humor Scholarship Project

Friday, October 25, 2019
7pm in Mago Hunt Recital Hall

This project by 2019-2020 Brian Doyle Humor Scholarship recipient Georgia Paulk aims to show off the silly and unusual talents of the UP community. How often do you get to see a talent show specifically for celebrating the silly parts of life? Contestants will be timed to demonstrate their unconventional skills and then scored by some goodhearted judges, but that’s just Round One! If you think you’re taking life too seriously, come by the No Talent Show and watch some questionably talented acts!

Interested in participating? Send an email to Georgia at by October 18th.

presented by Ryan Kenton, PhD

Wednesday, October 30, 2019
7:15pm in Franz Hall 120

While zombies have become common in horror and fantasy genres, the actual world of zombies is much more horrifying. In this talk we will investigate the theoretical biology of human zombies, but more importantly dive into the real world of zombies found in nature. Parasitic wasps, worms, and fungus have been found to turn thousands of species into assorted forms of zombies. Please join us as we discuss the real world of zombies!

Ryan Kenton, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at the University of Portland. He teaches microbiology and offers an authentic research experience for UP students to discover antibiotics from soil bacteria. His research involves the systems that both power iron uptake and expel antibiotics in the bacterial human pathogen Vibrio vulnificus.
