Intern Housing

Our Intern housing program is designed to provide secure, affordable, and convenient housing options for college students who have found internships or service-learning opportunities in the Portland area. 

Availability: Sunday, May 11 - Sunday, August 3, 2025

Modern, two or three-story (with elevator), air-conditioned, furnished apartment buildings offer guests the convenience of easy access to major highways and two Trimet bus lines accessing downtown Portland. The apartments are next to a workout facility, outdoor basketball, and beach volleyball courts.

To be eligible for UP Intern Housing, applications must meet the following criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older for the duration of their stay on campus
  • Enrolled as a matriculated student at an accredited college or university for the duration of their stay on campus
  • Employed in an internship, service-learning program, or supervised research program in the Portland area for the summer.

Please note that current University of Portland students (undergraduate or graduate) or individuals enrolled in University of Portland summer classes are not eligible for the Intern Housing Program through Summer Programs & Conferences and must contact the Office of Residence Life with all summer housing questions.

  • Rent and Payment Information: Rent is $350 per person per week for a single (Sunday - Saturday, any part of a week constitutes a full week), along with a one-time, non-refundable $55.00 application fee. You must pay a deposit of 40% of the lodging cost for your requested nights in the unit. Full payment is due upon check-in, in advance of move-in. The one-time, non-refundable $55.00 registration fee is payable by all interns at the time of registration.
  • Cancellation Policy: For a refund of your housing payment minus one week's rent ($350.00) and the non-refundable application fee, any total cancellation must be received in writing via e-mail by May 1, 2024. A higher charge will apply for cancellations after May 1, determined on a case-by-case basis.
  • Refund Policy for Date Changes: Any changes to dates of your internship that would result in a later arrival or earlier departure than your originally reserved dates must be communicated in writing via e-mail by May 1, 2025. Any possible refund will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Be sure to discuss your internship and housing dates with your employer as soon as possible to avoid such situations.
  • Check-In and Check-Out Dates: Interns may move in on Sunday, May 11, 2025, or later and MUST vacate their apartment no later than Sunday, August 3, 2025, by 11:00 a.m. NO extensions of stay pastSunday, August 3, 2025, by 11:00 a.m. can be given (as all buildings have to be vacated, cleaned and turned back over to the University at that time to prepare for students moving back in for the academic year). Detailed information on check-in procedures, times, and locations will be sent via email prior to intern move in. 
  • Check-Out Information: Check-Out Procedures will be emailed to interns the week of your check-out. A final apartment inspection walk-through by a Summer Programs & Conferences staff member is mandatory before check-out. Further information will be provided via e-mail during the summer. You will be responsible for taking any necessary actions as indicated by Summer Programs & Conferences staff following their walk-through before your departure.
