Associate Professor, School of Nursing

Andra DavisAndra Davis received a Ph.D. from the University of Utah, master’s from University of Washington, and bachelor’s from University of Arizona. Her dissertation used a critical framework to examine experiences of cancer-related pain among Latinx in New Mexico. Her scholarship trajectory has been directly linked to professional practice and expertise in oncology and palliative care nursing. Andra completed a postdoctoral fellowship exploring symptom support in cancer care and continues to conduct research, collaborating with a local healthcare network examining the impact of evidence-based symptom support in nurse-led phone support for cancer patients during chemotherapy. She was part of a national grassroots initiative with educators and researchers to explore implementation and development of a research proposal to examine the impact of palliative care education on student learning outcomes, which resulted in development of a new instrument to measure knowledge acquisition in undergraduate students. She is completing a 2-year NLN award to develop primary palliative care competencies for undergraduate nursing students. Andra brings many years’ experience teaching across graduate and undergraduate nursing programs both online and face-to-face. She has received awards for her teaching and comes to UP largely to support the teaching mission and inspire future nurses.
