Lucy Shanno

Visiting Instructor, Performing & Fine Arts

Before joining the Department of Performing and Fine Arts faculty full time, Lucy taught courses in music history and theory at University of Portland, Portland State University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Her research interests include the effects of recording technology on compositional and performance practice, and modalities of music theory and music history education. As a performer, Lucy sang under the batons of Sir David Willcocks and Peter Phillips, with Portland’s Choral Arts Ensemble, Philadelphia’s Ancient Voices, and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain. As a violist, Lucy’s first love is chamber music, although she has also enjoyed playing in the University of Pennsylvania and Cambridge University Symphony Orchestras. Lucy studied at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University, holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, and is a fellow of the Mannes Institute in Historical Music Theory. Outside music, Lucy is a long-term subscriber to Literary Arts, and likes skiing, paddle-boarding, running, and hiking. She is an active volunteer with local youth ski organizations and Scouts: BSA, and enjoys spending time with her family and dog.
