Maureen Briare

Instructor, School of Nursing

Maureen BriareMaureen Briare has a long and varied history with the University of Portland community. She is a 1992 alumna from the School of Nursing and practiced as a registered nurse (R.N.) for nine years until her life path led her back to the Bluff, but this time, in the role of director of liturgical music in Campus Ministry. She attained her master of arts in music (composition) in 2004 and has served as the director of the chapel choir and many musical events on campus since 2000. She is a published composer of sacred choral music and has two Celtic harp instrumental CD’s, titled Peaceful Prayer, which were inspired during her work as a hospice nurse, where she played her harp at the bedside of patients. Maureen has played music for hundreds of weddings and funerals and is thrilled that her vocation as a R.N. as well as a musician will be coming full circle as a School of Nursing faculty member. She has a passion for palliative care and palliative music and looks forward to being part of a faculty team to offer some new curriculum for a palliative care undergraduate program of study.
