Anna Myers

Anna comes to the University of Portland, UP, from her doctoral studies at the University of Virginia, U.Va. A lifelong Virginian, Anna received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Teaching degrees from U.Va. This rare honor makes her a “triple Hoo.” Anna is a passionate reader and writer which spurs her specialties in reading instruction, intervention, and special education. Anna spent 18 years as a special educator in Virginia public schools. As a seasoned educator, she began her teaching career working with elementary students with Autism where she utilized a reading program designed for students with dyslexia. This began Anna’s passion for reading instruction. Before earning her doctorate, Anna became an International Dyslexia Association Certified Dyslexia Therapist. She has worked with advocacy groups on legislative agendas at state and federal levels. She is an active presenter and has published research articles centered on teacher preparation. At UP, Anna will focus on the science of reading in teacher preparation and develop dyslexia centered programming. She is excited to join UP as an assistant professor and become a west coaster. Outside of class and her office, you might find her walking her dog or catch her writing about the latest great place to eat in town.
