Reo Jones, Ph.D.

Assistant Professor, School of Nursing & Health Innovations

Reo Jones holds an M.S.N. from the University of San Francisco and a Ph.D. in nursing from Oregon Health & Science University. She is currently pursuing a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) degree and is passionate about creating care environments that actively support healing. Reo’s research explores how integrating elements of the natural world into clinical environments can improve health outcomes for individuals experiencing chronic illness with limited access to the outdoors. She recently completed two studies investigating the effects of nature-based interventions, such as forest tree terpene aromas and live-recorded nature sights and sounds, on inflammation, chronic pain, and nervous system activity, using both quantitative and qualitative methods. Having taught in the undergraduate setting since 2018, Reo brings a diverse background in somatic movement practices and performing arts to her teaching. Before nursing, Reo worked as an instructor in wellness centers, schools, and community organizations, where she cultivated her commitment to social justice, DEIA, embodiment, and holistic care. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges nursing science with environmental health and integrative healing practices. Reo’s favorite part of teaching is sharing her passion for nursing science and learning from her amazing students. She’s excited to return to the incredible School of Nursing community at the University of Portland. Outside of academia and clinical work, she enjoys outdoor adventures, traveling with her family, creative arts, music, and cooking.
