Orientation

Orientation is a very special time because it is an opportunity for us to welcome you into our community and assist you in making the smoothest transition possible. Through an exciting and informative program of online activities and events, Orientation will help you build relationships with fellow new students, returning students, faculty, and staff.

As you acclimate to being a UP student, you will also learn many important aspects of University life, including:

  • the mission of the University;
  • what faculty expect and how to become a successful student;
  • the student services and academic advising the University provides;
  • your rights and responsibilities as a student at the University;
  • how to get involved in campus life outside the classroom, particularly through Engage;
  • the layout of the University campus (view a campus map);
  • how to access important information, particularly through our website and the campus web portal, PilotsUP;
  • common terminology used by UP students, faculty, staff, and alumni (a.k.a. "Pilot Speak")

This all starts with our pre-arrival orientation course.  Be sure to complete this before you arrive!

All new undergraduate students, including transfer students, are assessed a one-time New Student Fee, which will be applied to your student account. This mandatory, non-refundable, and non-transferable fee helps cover many of the costs associated with the activities and materials provided to new students and their families during Orientation weekend, including selected meals and student labor provided by Orientation Assistants and Coordinators.
