The University of Portland is pleased to offer a variety of scholarship opportunities to all students. We offer merit-based aid and need-based aid in addition to scholarships in Music, Drama, Communication Studies, and ROTC.
The University of Portland is delighted to offer merit based scholarships. Students do not apply for a merit based scholarship; they are automatically awarded to those who qualify based on an evaluation of their grades, test scores, and strength of program. These merit scholarships can range anywhere from $7,000 annually to $21,000 annually. Students who qualify are notified several weeks after they learn of our admissions decision.
One of the goals of the Office of Financial Aid is to serve students by recognizing that every student has unique financial needs. We help students invest in their futures to attain their educational goals by providing financial options through the financial aid awarding process. Need-based financial aid is determined after a student submits their Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The preferred deadline to submit this application is January 31.
The University offers music scholarships for tuition and private lessons in addition to the University’s financial aid offer. These scholarships are awarded by audition, either in person or on a recording. The top award for music majors is $5,500 and for music minors, $1000. Scholarships are automatically renewable for four years assuming continued musical and academic progress. There are also performance grants of $600 per year, awarded by annual audition, for talented students who will make a significant contribution to a UP ensemble, but who are not majors or minors.
There are also scholarships and grants available to majors in minors in the drama program. Contact Professor Larry Larsen, Director of Theatre, email@example.com, 503.943.7396 or Professor Mindi Logan, firstname.lastname@example.org, 503.943.7753.
