Registration Process for New Students in the School of Education

For your first term at the University of Portland, all students in the School of Education will be registered by the School of Education Program Counselor.

Typical First Semester Class Schedule

First year education students are generally registered for seven courses, totaling 16 credits:

  • ED 150  - Introduction to Education - 3 credits
    • For spring admits: ED 250/251 - Theories of Child or Adolescent Development - 3 credits 
  • CORE 101 - Anchor Seminar - 1 credit
  • CORE 001 - Anchor Seminar Workshop - 0 credits

Four other 3-credit courses that include Core or other major requirements

First-year classes at UP are offered one, two, three, and sometimes four times a week. Labs for science courses meet once a week for a longer period of time, and are an additional 1 credit.

  • University Core requirements are a set of courses that all students at the University of Portland must complete.
  • All first-year students are registered for an Anchor Seminar and Anchor Seminar Workshop.
  • Education Major requirements are the courses you need to complete for your specific education program.
  • Elective courses are any courses you take that do not fulfill any of your Core or Education Major requirements.
