Conflict Resolution | University of Portland

Conflict Resolution

It is the goal of Accessible Education Services (AES) to provide students with disabilities with excellent services and resources in order that they may enjoy full access and inclusion to University programs and activities. If concerns or complaints arise, we strive to address them in a timely and efficient manner.

Request for Reconsideration of a Decision

In order to request a reconsideration of a decision regarding a request for a reasonable accommodation by AES, the student must meet with Brenda Greiner, the Director of the Shepard Academic Resource Center, within thirty (30) days of the determination at issue.

Remediation of Concerns and Complaints

The University of Portland has established procedures for addressing conflicts concerning disability access and accommodation, which are outlined in the Policy on Disability and Accessibility document.

Internal Remedy

Students are encouraged to maintain regular communication with AES staff regarding accommodation needs and to consult immediately with the AES Access Counselor if there is a concern, conflict or grievance regarding AES services. Students are invited to contact the Associate Director of Accessible Education Services (AES) for further information and assistance.

If you would like to express a concern or complaint regarding any Accessible Education Services staff, service, or testing facility, please do so in one of the following ways:

Submit the concern or complaint via UP Email or in writing to:

Accessible Education Services
Shepard Academic Resource Center
Attn: Associate Director of Accessible Education Services
5000 N. Willamette Blvd.
Portland, OR 97203

External Remedies

While we would prefer to have the opportunity to remedy complaints internally first, complainants are not required to use internal remedies before pursuing remedies through state and federal agencies.
