Faculty & Staff

Professor writing on boardThe broad outlines of the University of Portland Core Curriculum are set by the statutes of the University to emphasize the breadth of the liberal arts and the opportunity to engage with fundamental questions of human life and existence. Within those broad outlines, the faculty determine the specific make-up of the University’s shared  curriculum through the Academic Senate in collaboration with the Provost’s Council.

The University Core went through an extensive multi-year revision process as part of the Vision 2020 Strategic Plan, resulting in a revitalized Core ready for phased implementation in the Fall of 2021. Under the guidance of a faculty Core director and an University Core Curriculum Committee (UCCC) comprised of faculty representing all the units of the University, the revitalized University Core includes many of the courses that have long made the UP Core special while also adding new opportunities for multi-disciplinary teaching and learning.

Specific information for faculty and staff about advising, course development, governance, and other related matters is available to those within the UP community through pilots.up.edu.
