About Portland

While you are in town for ASACCU, make sure you enjoy some of what Portland, Oregon has to offer!

Portland, known as the City of Roses, sits in the heart of the Pacific Northwest, an area known for its breath-taking mountain scenery, laid-back style, and foodie culture. If you’ve never been to Portland before, then you are in for a treat!

Head into one of our distinct neighborhoods and sample the famous Salt & Straw Ice Cream flavors of the month…or explore “the Pearl” for a pints at one of our amazing breweries and marvel at the rows upon rows of books at Powell’s Books, one of the nation’s largest independent booksellers…or take in breathtaking views of the city from Washington Park which sits on a hill above downtown and houses the International Rose Test Garden with over 10,000 roses! If cities aren’t your thing, then grab a car and head into the scenic Columbia River Gorge for waterfall hikes and mountain views. You could also make a quick weekend trip to the Willamette Valley for wine-tasting at one of the 700 local wineries. (Try our Pinot Noir, its unparalleled!)

Portland is a great city to explore and we are proud to show it off for ASACCU 2022.

Here is what a few University of Portland employees love about our city:

  • When I’m crossing a bridge in the early morning and the fog is rolling down forest park, the city looks both haunting, and inviting! It makes me want to lace up my shoes and go for a run!” -- Taylor M.
  • There is a lot of neat food to try! My favorite lunch spot is Grindwittryz, you got to check it out!” -- Andrew W.
  • With just a short drive out of the city you can find yourself in the heart of the Willamette Valley wine country - home to internationally recognized Pinot noir, Pinot gris, and Chardonnay. The hills of the northern valley are beautifully covered with vineyards large and small. Wineries and tasting rooms pepper these hills with breathtaking views of the Cascade Range.” -- Ian R.
  • Portland is an hour away from both the mountain and the beach. It also has a fantastic food scene! It’s consistently ranked as a top foodie city.” -- Mariza R.
