You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Our Peer Mentorship Program connects first-year, first-generation students with current UP students who also identify as first-gen. Your mentor is someone who’s been there—ready to share advice, answer questions, and help you feel confident as you start your college journey.
What Does a Mentor Do?
Whether you’re wondering where to find the best coffee on campus or how to talk to a professor, your mentor is here for you.

Hear From Our Students
“She helped me navigate my first semester of college and calmed my nerves when I was scared. She was easy to talk to, always understanding, and helped me problem-solve when I struggled. I can always count on her for uplifting words, and I appreciate her deeply." - Hunter Wampler (2024/25 First-Year Mentee) about her mentor Chae-Yi Shanks
"The mentorship program not only gave me the confidence to try new things, but it also gave me the support I needed to thrive in and out of the college environment. Without it, I never would have found myself to be active in other school organizations or in leadership positions." - JoAnn Lee
“Being apart of the FGEN program as a mentee has helped me gain confidence in myself and my capabilities. This growth has helped me find a sense of belonging and support, inspiring me to become more active on campus and in our FGEN community” – Emmely Minoth
