Prospective Students | University of Portland

Prospective Students

Thank you for your interest in the first-generation (FGEN) program at the University of Portland!  Our community is one for first-generation college students with a special focus on serving as a support network for student success here on campus. To be an FGEN Student here at the University of Portland means that your parent(s) did not complete a four-year college or university degree in the U.S., regardless of other family members completed level of education.

The FGEN community is open to all FGEN students with the goal of supporting them throughout their college careers. A fundamental part of our FGEN community is our Mentorship program. Our Mentorship program consists of a mentor and mentee who meet once, or as many times as necessary every other week to discuss how they are doing in school, ways to get connected to different resources on campus, experiences the mentee has gone through to give their mentee some guidance, etc.! This program is a great way to get connected to resources on campus, meet other FGEN students, and know where to get help as a first-year student!

We invite you to learn more about the FGEN community!  If you are a first-generation college student, will be attending, or are considering attending the University of Portland, and would like to find out more information about the program, please contact Matt Daily, Associate Director, at 503.943.7895 or firstgen@up.edu. If you would like to get in touch with an FGEN student coordinator, please email fgenstu02@up.edu. Feel free to also follow our Instagram account for more up-to-date information on our UP FGEN community @up_firstgen! Should you be visiting campus, consider reaching out during your visit so that we can discuss in detail the services we offer to FGEN students and families!
