Master of Engineering (ME)

We have adopted a new graduate application system called EngineeringCAS (a centralized application service for graduate engineering programs). Applications to the Master of Engineering program must be submitted through the EngineeringCAS site. Please do not use the University of Portland Graduate School application. Read all information below before applying.


Admission Requirements:

  • Statement of Goals
  • Current Resume
  • Two Letters of Recommendation
  • Official Transcripts from all previously attended academic institutions. A bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Portland is required
    • US university transcripts: Submit transcripts to EngineeringCAS by using the "transcript request form" in the "Colleges Attended" section of your application. Mail official transcripts to the address below:
      • EngineeringCAS Transcript Processing Center, PO Box 9121, Watertown, MA 02471
    • International Applicants: All foreign degrees will be evaluated by International Student Services prior to an admissions decision. Transcripts from foreign universities must be in English or be accompanied by an English translation certified as authentic. Send official transcripts to our address below:

  • Official Test Scores
    • International Applicants: an official score from either the TOEFL (minimum score of 80) or IELTS (minimum score of 7.0) exam is required. The institution code to submit TOEFL scores is B887. If you are taking the IELTS exam, request that your official score report is sent to the University of Portland.
    • International Applicants: Official GRE scores are required. The institution code to submit exam scores is 4847.
      • The GRE is not required for any applicant who completed their bachelor's degree at a US institution
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, mathematics, or a physical science (including computer science and environmental science)
  • International Applicants: Proof of financial support will be required to attend the University of Portland, but is not required for application review 

All application material should be submitted through EngineeringCAS (unless otherwise noted above). There is an EngineeringCAS processing fee of $68 for the first program you apply to. Each additional program has a processing fee of $40. The University of Portland does not charge a separate application fee.

Application Timeline: 

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the following deadlines: 

  • Fall Semester: July 19
  • Spring Semester: December 7
  • Summer Semester: April 12
