Recent University of Portland graduate Riley Clark ’16 won a Northwest Emmy Award for his video, “University of Portland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Raises Money for St. Baldrick's Foundation,” on Saturday, June 4, as announced by the Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. His video, produced through Portland Sports Network (PSN), won in the category of “ News: General Assignment-Serious” in the College Student Awards for Excellence division.

PSN is the University of Portland's in-house athletics video team, made up of two full-time creative video professionals: James Vega, director of video services, and Jose Nevarez, director of live video production. Student interns from various undergraduate academic programs help in both the creative and live video productions. Two other PSN features, “Gus & Travis: The Ultimate Gift” and “2016 Portland Pilots Baseball – The Dawn of a New Era” were also nominated. All three features were broadcast on the Comcast SportsNet Northwest monthly television show Portside with the Pilots.

The St. Baldrick’s video shows how the University’s men’s soccer team, faculty, staff, and students raised money for childhood cancer research by shaving their heads to spark fundraising efforts for the cause. Watch the full feature here.

“Gus & Travis” is a story about former Pilot baseball players Gus Little and Travis Vetters, who were teammates from 2002 to 2006. When Gus experienced kidney failure in 2014, Travis stepped up and donated a kidney and ultimately saved his friend’s life. Watch the show here .

“2016 Portland Pilots Baseball” focuses on new UP baseball coach Geoff Loomis as he enters his first season as head coach of the program. To watch the feature, click here .
