In his annual speech to University of Portland faculty and staff to open the academic year, Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C., president, discussed funding and enrollment issues facing higher education institutions in general and offered remarks on the state of affairs at UP and a preview of priorities for the year to come.

First-year students arrive on campus and move into residence hall on Thursday, August 22 beginning at 9 a.m. Students and their family members will be greeted by returning students at all nine of the residence halls with welcome signs and decorations as they carry in suitcases, comforters, computers, and other comforts from home.
