Nursing LabThe School of Nursing’s Learning Resource Center will be undergoing major changes in the upcoming year. Comprised of a 3-phase development plan, nursing students will see upgrades to existing facilities as well as new spaces in the already state-of-the art model hospital and outpatient clinic labs.

“We are so thankful for the opportunity to grow the Learning Resource Center,” September Nelson, director, said. “We are always looking for ways to improve our facilities and labs for our students.”

Phase 1 of the project, which began in December, expanded the acute care lab from 5 hospital rooms to 8 rooms, increasing the center’s ability to accommodate more students. The project was completed over winter break and the lab is currently being used by nursing students for the Spring semester.

The next phase of the project is the addition of a community and psychiatric health simulation room. Modeled to resemble an apartment, students will be able to recreate a home health or safety check with a client in a community setting.

The last project, phase 3, will expand the current nurse practitioner lab to provide more space and learning opportunities to students enrolled in the University’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.

“These projects will allow out students to be more prepared in their abilities to provide care to others,” Nelson said. “These changes are going to increase students’ opportunities in direct learning and skills practice.”
