A Message from University President Rev. Mark L. Poorman, C.S.C.

President

August 28, 2018

The beginning of a new academic year is a time of great promise, anticipation, and excitement at the prospect of pursuing new intellectual endeavors and forging new relationships.  It is also a fitting time for members of our University community to pause, reflect on blessings received, and identify areas for progress and growth in the new year.

Earlier today, I delivered remarks at UP’s Opening Convocation, the annual meeting of University faculty and staff.  While my address was wide-ranging in its scope, I devoted particular attention to three areas of critical importance in our community: diversity, inclusion, and Title IX.  Events of this past spring have underscored the need for all of us to strive to build a campus culture that affirms the dignity and value of the people who study, work, and live on The Bluff.  I hope that you will read my remarks in order to learn more about the efforts we have undertaken towards this end, including the appointment of new staff and the expansion of resources available to students.

I am proud of our University’s commitment to fostering a culture that is diverse, inclusive, and welcoming to every Pilot.  I look forward to working alongside each of you in the weeks and months ahead to continue these efforts and to promote the values that make our community truly distinctive – respect, kindness, and a deep and genuine care for one another.

Please go here to read my remarks.

Sincerely,

Father Mark
