When measuring return on investment in a collegiate education, one data point reigns supreme – graduation rate. Over the past 10 years, University of Portland (UP) is Oregon’s leader among all schools, public and private, in four-year graduation rates, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. Further proof of dividends from a UP education comes from the median income of UP graduates 10 years after initial enrollment. According to the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard, UP graduates earn an average annual income of $77,017 following that period, second only to the state’s research and medical school, Oregon Health & Sciences University.

“The University of Portland’s superb graduation rate and median income data illustrate what we’ve long known to be true – namely, that UP offers a transformational education with exceptional return on investment,” said UP President Dr. Robert D. Kelly. “Our Catholic, Holy Cross mission compels us to prepare students for lives of success, purpose, and fulfillment. These data affirm that our efforts are having a tangible, positive impact on our students, their families, and the world.”

National accolades and rankings in recent years also continue to elevate UP’s status. The University is now included in The Princeton Review’s national rankings of “The Best 389 Colleges – 2024 Edition,” showcasing schools to applicants and their parents as the nation’s best for undergraduate academics and unique cultures. For the 2023-24 academic year, U.S. News & World Report rated UP #2 in the Western Region. And in 2023, Money.com, WalletHub and Niche.com all included UP among their bests universities in such categories as high graduation rates, strong academics, cost and finances, and career outcomes.

“We are tremendously proud of the successes of our University of Portland graduates, which these metrics reflect,” said UP Provost Dr. David Mengel. “Whether they study Engineering or Nursing, Environmental Science or Business, Computer Science, Public Health, Education, or Psychology – or any major from our College of Arts and Sciences or four professional schools – all UP students benefit from UP’s talented faculty, dedicated teacher-scholars who are committed to their success. Also fundamental to our students’ success is UP’s distinctive Core Curriculum, a shared academic experience of the liberal arts and sciences that draws from our Catholic and Holy Cross traditions and is designed to prepare students for lives that are both meaningful and productive.”
