One of the region’s top producers of Fulbright U.S. Students has done it again: Eight recent University of Portland graduates have been honored with Fulbrights for the 2025-26 cycle.
Of the eight selected this spring, six UP graduates have accepted their awards to serve as Fulbright English Teaching Assistants in Europe and Asia. The University’s 2025-26 Fulbright honorees are:
Fulbright U.S. Students are graduating seniors, alumni or graduate students recognized each year by the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Through the Fulbright Program, accomplished students, scholars, teachers, artists, and professionals of all backgrounds are afforded the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research abroad.
“We are so proud of Sophia, Molly, Malia, Amanda, Jonah, Stephanie, Julianna, and Eva,” said UP President Robert D. Kelly, PhD. “These globally engaged Pilots continue a longstanding tradition of Fulbright success at UP. Their accomplishments are a testament to our institution’s strength at producing scholars who are ready to make an impact here in America and around the world, and we send them forth with our best wishes.”
Following the 2024-25 cycle—which saw six UP graduates accepted into the Fulbright program—UP earned national recognition as a Top Producer of Fulbright U.S. Students. The 2025-26 class of eight honorees is UP’s highest total since it led all master’s level institutions with 10 Fulbright U.S. Students in 2020-21.
“I’m so proud of these amazing Fulbright students, whose passion for learning, service, and cross-cultural exchange reflects the very best of University of Portland,” said Cara Hersh, PhD, the University’s Assistant Provost of Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement and Career Readiness. “It’s an honor to celebrate this prestigious recognition with them, and I look forward to seeing the impact they will have around the world.”
Dr. Hersh encourages current students and recent alumni to apply for Fulbrights through UP’s Office of Undergraduate Scholarly Engagement. Since last year, UP students who complete the Fulbright application process—which includes networking, peer review, and research about their host country—are eligible for one academic credit.
