Adventure out into the enchanting streets of Tokyo in the summer. Hike the mountains, enjoy the beaches, attend baseball games and visit the rich culinary culture of Japan. Tokyo offers a long history to explore, as well as endless modern entertainment. The local transportation is efficient and affordable, making weekend trips the best way to explore the city and surrounding towns.
On this program, you will study at Sophia University. It offers an environment that brings together students and faculty members from different cultural, linguistic, and religious backgrounds, the campus functions as a microcosm of global society. Every course is taught in English, though you will have the opportunity to take introductory Japanese language courses. You will also have the opportunity to join cultural activities offered by the city as well as the student body of Sophia University. Past activities have included Kabuki plays at the National Theater, Wadaiko workshops, and Rakugo.
Sophia University does not offer on-campus housing as you might be accustomed to given its centralized location in Tokyo, however, it offers options for university-affiliated housing or private accommodations. Experience the city and everyday life as the locals do, get to know your neighbors and learn from them.
Our office will be with you every step of the way. While you apply to this program, you will be able to meet with our staff or one of our Student Advisors who have just returned from their own time abroad. We offer guidance and support during the application process, then we will ensure you are prepared for your trip with mandatory predeparture orientations and informational sessions and continue to work with you as you reintegrate into the UP campus life.
The cost of this program is similar to the cost of Tuition and Room + Board for a single semester on campus. Institutional aid and scholarships apply. We also have a UP Study Abroad Scholarship you can apply to!
