About Studies Abroad

Dr. Eduardo Contreras, Jr. From the Director's Desk

Welcome to the Office of Studies Abroad,

Here’s a two-word challenge. Study abroad!

Beyond the joys of meeting people of different cultures, learning new languages, and experiencing global cuisine, students who study abroad often experience profound personal, academic, and professional development.

I never studied abroad as an undergraduate student. As Director of Studies Abroad, I’m embarrassed to admit that, but it drives the work I do every day. When I eventually went abroad on a Hindi-language program in India, studying abroad changed my life. It opened my eyes to a way of learning I had not previously known. I was frustrated to have the experience so late, but deeply grateful to have such rich intercultural connections with so many of the people I met in India. Today, I work hard to help students of all backgrounds have their own life-changing experiences during their undergraduate years.

At UP, studying abroad means more than the number of stamps you have on your passport. For Pilots, education abroad is one of the most powerful ways to stimulate your hands, hearts, and minds. At its very best, studying abroad enables you to find meaningful ways to witness the needs of the world firsthand, and to connect with members of our human family in ways that can help make the world a better place.

All UP students are welcome to accept this challenge.  Please use this website, and our office with its extraordinary staff, to meet this challenge.
