Math Placement Test

Math

The Math Placement Test is required for all incoming students who wish to enroll in Calculus I (MTH 201), regardless of past of AP or IB credit for calculus. It is the first step in a math placement process, and can help us identify students who would be best served by starting in Precalculus (MTH 112), or by joining the free, online Math On-Ramp Summer Program (More info and registration here).

For Fall admits:

For students beginning fall semester, the math placement test will be available March 1; it is due before Summer Wave registration (mid June). If you are in a major requiring Calculus (Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry), instructions will be emailed to your UP email address five days after you confirm enrollment. Can’t find the email? Question? Contact mathplacement@up.edu

For Spring admits:

For students beginning spring semester, the Math Placement Test should be completed by January 1. All students beginning spring semester who wish to take the placement test will need to contact mathplacement@up.edu to request access to the test.

If you are not in a major requiring Calculus, but need to take Math 201, please email mathplacement@up.edu and request access to the exam. You will be emailed instructions for the exam once you have been given access.
