Accessible Education Services

Accessible Education Services (AES) serves hundreds of UP students with disabilities through accommodations such as extended time on exams, housing and dining accommodations, assistive technology and other individually-tailored accommodations, according to student need.

Students receiving AES support experience the following types of disabilities: learning disabilities, traumatic brain injury, attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder, psychiatric disabilities, vision and hearing impairments, and chronic health and mobility impairments.

Accessible Education Services will:

  • Assist students in obtaining appropriate documentation of a disability
  • Develop an accommodation plan for students to ensure necessary and appropriate classroom accommodations
  • Facilitate non-classroom accommodations (note: the housing accommodation request deadline is June 10).

Examples of available AES accommodations include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Housing and dining accommodations, for example, a maximum of one roommate (deadline for housing accommodation requests is June 10)
  • Exam and academic accommodations
  • Text books in alternate format
  • Registration related accommodations to meet disability related needs

If you had an IEP/504 Plan and/or received accommodations such as extra time on tests in high school, you may contact Accessible Education Services to discuss possible accommodations at University of Portland.

Some AES accommodations have specific request deadlines, so it is important to contact AES as early as possible for support in arranging accommodations. Accessible Education Services looks forward to assisting you!

To request accommodations, complete the accommodations request process as outlined on the AES main page titled Register with AES.
