A Letter from the Dean of Admissions

I am pleased that you have taken time to learn about University of Portland and explore the opportunities available to you here on The Bluff. As you apply for admission to the University, I want to remind you about some of the benefits of a University of Portland education:

Jason McDonald, Dean of Admissions
  • Small, personal classes taught by faculty, not teaching assistants
  • Broad choice of majors and academic programs (more than 70 undergraduate programs of study)
  • Generous financial aid (freshmen in 2015 - 2016 received an average of more than $23,300 in financial aid (excluding loans) and altogether nearly 98 percent of the University’s students shared more than $108 million in aid)
  • A rich and varied campus life—more than 80 student clubs, nearly three dozen volunteer programs, and academic and extracurricular activities nearly every day of the week
  • Values-centered education (an opportunity to grow intellectually and spiritually)
  • A convenient location (close to downtown Portland and just a short drive to the Pacific coast, Cascade Mountains, or Columbia River Gorge)

The University of Portland offers an intimate, caring Catholic community in an atmosphere ideally suited for study, work, and play.  It's an atmosphere that will prepare you not just for life, but for living. I hope that you’ll be able to join us here for your undergraduate studies.

Jason McDonald
Dean of Admissions
