Computer Labs and Kiosks

Technical Services (TS) implements, maintains and supports all campus technology infrastructure including computer labs and walk up kiosks across campus.

Computer Labs

There are two open computer labs on campus, located in the Clark Library and Shiley Hall room 208. The labs have faculty-requested courseware installed and some labs also contain special purpose software. Each lab contains PCs or Macintosh computers or, in some cases, a mix of these assets. Printers are installed in each location. Information services employs student workers as laboratory assistants, who are responsible for laboratory operations including answering questions, cleaning computers, filling printers with paper and toner, and reporting broken or missing equipment.

Mobile Lab

Audio Visual Services can schedule a mobile PC laptop cart for delivery to classrooms across campus. The lab consists of 32 laptops with the necessary academic software installed. Semester-long standing orders should be made a week before the semester begins, while one-time orders should be made at least 48 hours in advance. All requests are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The lab is available for classroom usage only, and only the entire lab can be reserved for usage. Instructors using the lab are responsible for the equipment while in their possession. Contact AV Services to reserve the cart (av@up.edu).

Walk Up Kiosks

There are twelve full-featured kiosk computers that provide quick-stop access to the Internet and all online campus resources. They are located in St. Mary’s Student Center lounge, Franz Hall basement, and Shiley Hall first floor. Additionally, each residence hall has a cluster of kiosks available for use by residents and staff. Kiosks are available in the basements of Mehling, Kenna, Christie, Villa Maria, and Shipstad Halls; in Corrado Hall on the second floor, both wings; in Haggerty and Tyson Hall in the University Village lobby; in Lund Family Hall on the second floor, both wings; and on the third floor of Fields and Schoenfeldt halls. View the online campus map for specific locations.

Clark Library Digital Lab

The Clark Library Digital Lab provides current University of Portland students with the space, equipment, software and support to produce audio, video, photography and design research projects. The lab is a self-service facility staffed with student assistants and a coordinator able to assist users of all abilities. Patrons may borrow audio and video equipment and use the facility’s Epson scanners and inkjet printers to scan and print high-resolution documents. Students can also meet with the Lab’s Coordinator for help on a variety of topics including photography software, studio lighting and 3D printing. To learn more visit the Digital Lab website.
