FAFSA Submission and Enrollment Deposit Updates

Deadlines Extended

Dear Students and Parents,

Filing and submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) hasn’t been easy for many this year. You are not alone. With the changes to the FAFSA and the delayed launch, we are fully aware of the issues and recognize that you need our support. Additionally, the Department of Education recently announced that universities will not have access to student FAFSA data until at least mid-March this year. Together, we will work with you to ensure that you receive the encouragement, support, and guidance to make attending University of Portland a reality this fall.

Here are some takeaways to help you through this time:

  • We will begin packaging financial aid and sending offer letters as soon as the Department of Education makes your FAFSA data available to us. Our newly extended FAFSA priority deadline of April 15 is a recommended timeline only. We will continue to package aid from any FAFSAs received from students admitted to University of Portland.

  • University of Portland is extending our confirmation deposit deadline to June 1 (from May 1). We know affordability is top of mind for most families and that college decisions are best made with financial aid offers in hand. By extending our deadline, we want to provide more time for you to be able to do just that. Furthermore, we will continue to work one-on-one with families who need more time beyond June 1 to deposit.

  • Our Admission and Financial Aid counselors are here and ready to answer any questions or concerns you have throughout the FAFSA and financial aid award process. We encourage you to contact us at any step of your journey, so we can support you when you need it.

Please know that University of Portland is with you and for you as we all navigate the new FAFSA changes together.

As Father Charlie McCoy, UP mathematics professor and campus colleague, remarked to me recently, “We have to remind ourselves that the virtue of hope is deeper than optimism and that it is strong enough to endure moments of genuine disappointment.” We look to the future with great hope and excitement to have you all with us as Pilots this fall.
