Elvia currently serves as Senator Merkley's Legislative Director leading his team of policy advisors on a broad legislative agenda. Most recently, Elvia served as his lead advisor on health care, education, nutrition, and LGBTQ policy where she supported the Senator in increasing funding for nursing education, maintaining federal summer meal programs for children in Oregon, and his efforts on the Equality Act.
Prior to joining the Senator's team, Elvia served as a Staff Assistant for Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici and volunteered on state and federal political campaigns and voter registration efforts. The critical thinking, oral communication, organizational, and writing skills taught by the political science department, mock trial, and student government helped Elvia throughout her career.
Elvia is from Hillsboro, Oregon and received her bachelor's in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Portland in 2015.
