During my senior year, my capstone clinical immersion was in an ophthalmology outpatient eye surgery center. This experience gave me great training in pre- and post-operative patient care. At the end of my capstone, I was invited to go on a mission trip to Antigua, Guatemala, to aid as a translator and care for patients in the post-op ward. From these two experiences in the surgical atmosphere, my interest in this field of nursing continued to grow, and I am very thankful to be able to continue my practice in this area. I now work as a circulator nurse in the operating room at Providence Portland Medical Center and am also a Clinical Teaching Associate at UP.

My professors were instrumental in my success as a nursing student. I can’t thank them enough for all of their help in guiding me through my time at UP. Science courses were definitely challenging for me, but the professors’ lectures and group exercises provided excellent visual and hands-on learning experiences. I am very thankful to the School of Nursing for preparing me so well for my nursing career.

A big highlight of my UP experience was studying abroad in Salzburg, Austria. I was a little nervous being away from home, but I experienced many great moments abroad. Some of my favorite memories include joining a soccer team in Salzburg and traveling through Europe on the weekends with my friends. I am forever thankful for the experiences and memories I have from my time at UP.”
