IES Freiburg, Germany
Study abroad in Freiburg for a semester!
Tucked at the foot of the Black Forest, Freiburg is the quintessential southern German town, with its winding streets and historic architecture. It is also home to the Albert- Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, consistently rated one of the top universities in Germany. We invite you to study abroad in Freiburg, and to immerse yourself in student life and German language in this vibrant university town.
We have partnered with IES Abroad to offer this semester-long program where Freiburg will be your classroom. Wherever possible, the courses take advantage of the city’s many historical, artistic, and cultural sites, and several courses include course-related trips. Specially designed to improve your German language skills, this program draws upon Freiburg’s rich culture and traditions to connect your coursework with the living history of the city. IES Abroad courses are taught in German by local faculty, and a variety of academic options are available at local universities.
You will have the option to live in shared apartments with German and other international students or in a studio in the heart of Freiburg. There will be plenty of excursions to participate in, including but not limited to Berlin, Padua, Venice, or the Swiss Alps. The IES Abroad team is always revising their excursions to ensure that you will have an enriching academic and cultural experience.
Our office will be with you every step of the way. While you apply to this program, you will be able to meet with our staff or one of our Student Advisors who have just returned from their own time abroad. We offer guidance and support during the application process, then we will ensure you are prepared for your trip with mandatory predeparture orientations and informational sessions, and continue to work with you as you reintegrate into the UP campus life.
The cost of this program is similar to the cost of Tuition and Room + Board for a single semester on campus. While this program is open to all majors, institutional aid and scholarships apply only for German Majors. We require non-German Majors to meet with our staff to talk about the financial aspects of this program. We also have a UP Study Abroad Scholarship you can apply to!
PRE-REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed GRM 301 & 302, or GRM 308, to be eligible for this program. Since most students study abroad in their sophomore year, you might need to consider your schedule carefully.
