ILACA Granada, Spain

Study abroad in Granada for a semester!

Immerse yourself in Spain’s rich history, culture, and language through courses, volunteering opportunities, service learning, homestays, and the opportunity to participate in professional internships. Visit the Cathedral of Granada, the Alhambra, and the Parque de las Ciencias. Explore the gardens dotted around the city, attend music and film festivals, and walk the colorful cobbled streets.

We have partnered with ILACA through Willamette University to offer this semester-long program where you will improve your language skills. You will take courses through the Centro de Lenguas Modernas (CLM) that is associated with the Universidad de Granada. Commit to always speaking Spanish and maximize your language growth while in Spain. There are many opportunities to engage with the culture, such as through intercambios (where you can be paired with a local student learning English), fitness courses, art or dance classes and many other things offered at the community’s rec and culture center. Your classmates will be other U.S. students, but all courses are in Spanish. CLM also offers electives in arts, literature, history, theology, and more. You will be able to complete Core requirements with these courses, and Spanish majors will be able to complete many of their major credits.

As part of the immersive experience, you will be placed with a host family in the heart of Granada, a short commute away from the CLM. There will be plenty of excursions to participate in, including but not limited to Andalucía, Sevilla, Madrid, Toledo, and Segovia. The ILACA team is always revising their excursions to ensure that you will have an enriching academic and cultural experience.

Our office will be with you every step of the way. While you apply to this program, you will be able to meet with our staff or one of our Student Advisors who have just returned from their own time abroad. We offer guidance and support during the application process, then we will ensure you are prepared for your trip with mandatory predeparture orientations and informational sessions, and continue to work with you as you reintegrate into the UP campus life.

The cost of this program is similar to the cost of Tuition and Room + Board for a single semester on campus. Institutional aid and scholarships apply. We also have a UP Study Abroad Scholarship as well as Spanish Language specific scholarships you can apply to!

PRE-REQUIREMENT: Students must have completed SPN 301 & 302, or SPN 308, to be eligible for this program. Since most students study abroad in their sophomore year, you might need to consider your schedule carefully.
