GEO Querétaro, Mexico
Study abroad in Querétaro, Mexico during the summer!
Immerse yourself in the language and culture of Querétaro. Mexico is an ideal location to continue your Spanish language studies, as the pronunciation, vocabulary, and colloquial expressions used in Mexico are also commonly heard in the U.S., offering you a smoother linguistic transition between the two countries. Querétaro is a beautiful colonial city located in the state of Querétaro in the heart of central Mexico, and home to approximately 1.4 million people. The city is known especially for its excellent universities, growing economy, safety, and cleanliness. Its historic city center is recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site.
We have partnered with Global Education Oregon (GEO) to offer this six-week long program. You will study at the downtown campus of the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ), which is close to Querétaro's beautiful historic district. There you will take intermediate or advanced Spanish, as well as courses on Mexican history, literature, and culture that will count towards your major, minor, or Core requirements. As part of this program, you will also partake in excursions to Mexico City, Guanajuato, Bernal, and other historic towns around the host city. There are many extra activities in and around Querétaro, and we always recommend students to explore the nearby area and treat the streets of Querétaro as their own classroom.
As part of the immersive experience, you will live with a Mexican host family and have the chance to interact with Mexican students on campus. You will be able to practice your Spanish, experience the everyday life in a Mexican household, and interact with the community.
Our office will be with you every step of the way. While you apply to this program, you will be able to meet with our staff or one of our Student Advisors who have just returned from their own time abroad. We offer guidance and support during the application process, then we will ensure you are prepared for your trip with mandatory predeparture orientations and informational sessions, and continue to work with you as you reintegrate into the UP campus life.
Unfortunately, summer programs such as Querétaro do not qualify for institutional aid or existing scholarships. We also have a UP Study Abroad Scholarship you can apply to! We also encourage you to look for external scholarships as well.
