Flexible Spending Accounts

The Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Controller offer University of Portland employees the opportunity to participate in the Section 125 Flexible Spending Account for both healthcare and childcare.

Employees are eligible to enroll in Flex Spending Accounts during Open Enrollment or when a qualifying life event occurs. Email benefits@up.edu with inquiries regarding qualifying events or contact the HR office at extension 8484. 

2019 Vendor - Allegiance

Allegiance will be managing all 2019 Flexible Spending Accounts. Any medical FSA rollover balances will be moved from Discovery Benefits to Allegiance in late April 2019.

To enroll in a Flexible Spending Account in 2019 please submit the following online form before the Open Enrollment period ends on November 20, 2018 at 4:30pm. 

More Allegiance forms will be provided soon.  

2018 Vendor - Discovery Benefits

Any reimbursement requests for 2018 medical or dependent expenditures must be submitted using the Discovery Benefits forms and sent directly to Discovery Benefits.

Rules and Regulations

  • Your Medical FSA can be used for items other than copays and coinsurance? Visit the FSA Store to find out more.
  • You must submit reimbursements for a Plan Year prior to March 30 of the subsequent year. 2018 expenditures must be submitted to Discovery Benefits before March 30, 2019.
  • Any funds left after the end of the Plan Year will be forfeited, except for Medical FSA amounts between $20 and $500 which can rollover to the next Plan Year. Dependent Care is not eligible for rollover. 2018 medical FSA rollovers will move to Allegiance in late April 2019. 
  • You must submit a new enrollment form during Open Enrollment to continue contributions from one Plan Year to the next. 
  • For 2019, the maximum Medical FSA amount is $2,700 per employee and the maximum amount for Dependent Care FSA is $5,000 per household. You are eligible to contribute up to the IRS maximum.
