Plunge Into Your Neighborhood (PIYN) Digital Storyteller 2024

 

ABOUT 

In partnership with local and global communities, the Moreau Center for Service and Justice engages critical human and environmental concerns through active learning, mutually beneficial service, and experience-based leadership development rooted in Catholic social teaching. Our work is possible through the commitment of a team of about 30 student leaders who inspire and lead their peers in various programs.  All Moreau Center student leaders commit to the Moreau Center’s core commitments of Social Justice, Solidarity, Community and Reflection.  

SUMMARY: 

As a member of the PIYN Team, the digital storyteller (or storytellers) will photo-document this pre-orientation experience for incoming first-year and transfer students, including supporting live and asynchronous social media postings. The digital storyteller will curate images and produce and present a slideshow.  

This position (or positions) will work alongside PIYN Coordinators and under the guidance and support of the Program Manager for Community Partnerships.

TIME COMMITMENT & AVAILABILITY REQUIREMENTS: 

  • This is a volunteer position. 
  • Available to return to campus one week prior to Orientation 
  • Available to attend related trainings or orientations 
  • Full days in lead up to and including the PIYN Experience 
  • Full overnight attendance with PIYN Participants. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Responsible and dependable. 
  • Personable, welcoming, and hospitable. 
  • Strong work ethic, and ability to take initiative. 
  • Current Driver’s License and ability to drive University of Portland vehicles.  
  • Ability and willingness to cheerfully take direction, if needed. 
  • Ability and comfort working in collaboration with another digital storyteller, if applicable. 
  • Experience with digital media, cameras, etc. 
  • Experience creating slideshows. 
  • Commitment to engaging Moreau Center Core Commitments throughout the PIYN Experience 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:  

The digital storyteller will photo-document activities related to the PIYN Experience and support social media visibility. They will also curate images and produce and present a slideshow. 

Attendance at certain trainings and for all provided meals will be necessary.  

Please be available for a post-PIYN X debrief and/or evaluation. 

The digital storyteller will provide the images and the slideshow to Program Manager for Community Partnerships. They become property of Moreau Center for Service & Justice. 

*Note that the exact configuration of the PIYN Experience will depend on many factors, most notably State of Oregon, Multnomah County, and University of Portland COVID19-informed regulations.
