Special Note:  Out of an abundance of caution, and in conjunction with state guidelines on public gatherings, the Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center was closed the morning of Thursday, March 12 at 10:00 AM and will remain closed until further notice. We will take this time to thoroughly deep clean the building in preparation for reopening at a later date.

As the COVID-19 situation changes day-to-day, we are unsure when the Beauchamp Center will reopen and when our programs will resume.  Most of our services are free to University of Portland students, faculty and staff.  For those that require a fee, we will offer refunds or apply the value of services missed to future service as described below.  

Students
Outdoor Pursuits- Students will receive a refund of all fees paid for OPP Trips or classes (CPR, First Aid, etc.) scheduled to take place through April 12, 2020.  If trips after that date do not take place, we will refund students at the end of the semester.  Refunds will be sent to address on file. 

Lockers and towel service- Students will receive a refund for all locker & towel service from March 12, 2020- May 15, 2020, on a pro-rated basis.  Refunds will be sent to address on file.

Faculty & Staff 
Locker rental & towel service fees paid for dates during closure will be applied to future use on a pro-rated basis.  
Alumni & Spouse Passes
Fees paid for alumni & spouse passes for dates during closure will be applied to future use on a pro-rated basis.

For non-continuing faculty, staff or student spouses, a refund will be issued for dates missed during closure, upon request.

The Beauchamp Recreation & Wellness Center is a welcoming place for those of all abilities. Here are some of our services to help you get the most of your time with us.

Lockers

Both complimentary day lockers and rental lockers of three different sizes are available to students, faculty and staff. Medium locker are available on an availability basis to alumni who have a membership. Sign up for locker rentals in the Beauchamp Center. Payment is by cash, check, or credit card.

Equipment Checkout

Sports equipment for use within the Beauchamp Center is available for checkout at the front desk. There is no charge if items are returned on time and in good condition.

User is responsible for full replacement cost if items are lost or damaged (replacement costs are available at front desk).

Outdoor equipment such as tents and sleeping bags are available for checkout in the Outdoor Pursuits Office. Some equipment is free to use and some have rental fees. A fee schedule is available in the OPP office.

Bikes, helmets, and locks can be checked out on a short-term basis from the Outdoor Pursuits office. Daily bike, helmet, and lock rentals are free as long as the equipment is returned on time in the same condition. Equipment users are responsible for full replacement value of any items lost, stolen or damaged (replacement costs are available at front desk).

Weight Room

Rec Services will conduct several weight room orientations at the start of each semester - orientation dates/times will be posted in the facility and online. It is recommended that users attend an orientation prior to using the weight room. All weight room users must be 18 years of age or older unless enrolled as a full-time student. Weight room assistants will be present throughout the week to answer questions or assist with movements.

Climbing Gym

The Climbing Gym includes a 40' vertical climbing tower and bouldering wall.

Climbing shoes are required and are available at no charge at the climbing gym. Shoes may not leave the building and are due immediately after use.

Bouldering orientation sessions are available throughout each semester. Students must take part in an orientation session and sign a waiver prior to using the bouldering wall. Approved users may use the bouldering area whenever the building is open.

Climbing on the vertical tower requires a UP rec services climbing certification. Classes will be offered throughout each semester - class dates/times will be posted in the facility and online. Climbing wall users must also have a UP certified belayer to use the climbing wall.

Use of the climbing wall is limited to posted hours.

Fitness Classes

Beauchamp offers a variety of fitness classes to accommodate all fitness levels. Classes range from mindful mediation to recreational dance to high intensity interval training and weightlifting. Our goal is to offer something for everyone and build a sense of community in each class.

Please note: Noon hour fitness classes are faculty/staff only classes. We offer a faculty/staff class each weekday.

Fitness classes are not open to guests. Classes are open to partner/spouse members based on availability after student/faculty/staff registration.
