Jorge Salazar
Schoenfeldt Hall, Assistant Hall Director

Jorge was born in Ashland, Oregon, and raised in Chapalilla Nayarit México and Medford, Oregon. He graduated from Southern Oregon University in the spring of 2021, double majoring in Emerging Media & Digital Arts and Spanish Language and Culture. During their time at SOU, Jorge worked closely with student life as a student worker for the Queer Resource Center and Latino Youth Program. Throughout their undergraduate degree, he was part of multiple identity-based clubs. He attended various conferences around Oregon like the Oregon Students of Color Conference (OSCC), the Oregon Student Equal Rights Alliance (OSERA), and the Pacific Islander Student Alliance Conference (PISACON).

Jorge became an AmeriCorps member during their first year after graduating from SOU. He worked as a College Success Coach for the nonprofit organization College Possible in Portland, Oregon. Because of this work, Jorge decided to further their education with a focus on supporting marginalized communities/identities.

This is Jorge's first year working at the University of Portland in residence life and being a student starting the Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs (MA HESA) program at UP in the Fall.

For fun, Jorge enjoys trying local food trucks, gardening, attempting to cook, playing video games, watching anime, reading manga, using public transportation, thrifting, tennis, and spending money on things that they don't need.
